Bachelor Programme in Circus

Bachelor Programme in Circus

The Bachelor’s Programme in Circus is for you who want to work as artists within the field of contemporary circus. As a student you will get the opportunity to develop your own discipline and explore your personal artistic language. Stockholm University of the Arts launches a new BA programme in 2025 emphasizing embodying diverse knowledge through circus practice and articulating specificities of circus performance.

The Bachelor's Programme in Circus

Contemporary circus is performed in many different forms and for many different audiences. Our graduates can be found working as freelancers and in established companies, creating their own companies, and taking part in festivals and events. Through their artistic approach, they have expanded where and how circus is presented.

As a soloist or in an ensemble, circus artists often collaborate with other art forms, working both nationally and internationally.

A Bachelor's Degree in Circus provides our students with an in-depth artistic focus on circus and culture over three years. With the Bachelor's Degree, former students have also gone on to work in artistic research and pursued graduate education (masters, doctorate).

In the Bachelor’s Programme in Circus you develop tools for your artistic practice and learn to work independently and with collective creation.

The programme is structured around presentations where students articulate their developing practice in presentation by integrating knowledge from intersecting fields and engaging in feedback discourses. These presentations are supported by consistent discipline work, course work in fields such as historical and contemporary socio-political contexts, feedback methods, artistic research, creative methods, performance practices, stage technology and rigging, and logistics of professional circus performance.

As a student, you will work with performance, interpretation, improvisation and audience relationships. The different aspects of creative stage work will be deepened as you continuously explore, create, practice and present artistic projects in different formats.
