Anders Larsson 1959-2026

Our friend, teacher and colleague Anders Larsson, lecturer in performing arts specialising in theatre technique, has passed away. We miss him deeply, and he leaves a huge void behind him.

– Anders was our colleague and teacher; he was immensely popular and deeply dedicated to his work, and we will miss him. Anders mainly taught stage technique and technical production coordination, and had a passion for technique that was infectious. He was an expert on the history of stage technique, its craftsmanship and mechanics, and always shared little technical quirks and details that most people never think about, says Principal Ellen Røed.

Anders joined Dramatiska institutet as a teacher in stage technique back in 1989 and worked at SKH until his passing.

For many of us at SKH, Anders was a colleague, a friend and a creative force. As a teacher, he engaged with students with dedication, expertise and warmth.

Rest in peace Anders.

The funeral will take place at Sofia Church in Stockholm on Monday 25 May at 11.00.

Some personal farewell messages from close colleagues

Thomas Mirstam, Senior lecturer in lighting design, former Head of the department of performing arts:

“It is hard to accept that a colleague of many years should miss out on gifts and kind words on his retirement. Anders passed away just months before the time came. Many of us miss him and will miss the celebration.

In the late 1980s, when I was in charge of the theatre technique programme at DI, he was one of the applicants. He didn’t get in. Instead of a student, we gained a new colleague. That says a lot about who Anders was. And he remained with us all those years.

With a strong grasp of both the practical and the theoretical, he guided staff and students through the history, craftsmanship and technique of the performing arts, and not least the safety aspects. Anders was well-versed in almost everything, and his cultural interests seem to have fuelled his creative drive and incredible work ethic.

Now the anchor has been dropped from education, community life and international networks. I have lost a very, very good friend.”

Mihra Lindblom, assistant professor of performing arts with specialisation make-up and wig design, colleague and friend:

“Anders and I have a long history together. Anders was a year above me at Kristofferskolan, and that shaped us as colleagues for over 20 years, with shared references that only we understood, such as Goethe’s theory of colours, the importance of manual skills – that is, craftsmanship – and a bit of hocus-pocus that we could chuckle about.

Anders was a genuine community-minded person with many different interests besides lighting and theatre technique; among other things, he sang in a choir and was very interested in astronomy, and he had a wealth of international assignments and contacts.

I will miss Anders greatly, both as a colleague and as a friend.”

Anders Aare, colleague, friend, assistant professor of performing arts with specialisation sound design:

“I first met Anders when I was studying theatre technique at Dramatiska institutet, where he was a lecturer in stage technique. Even then, he stood out for his vast knowledge and his generosity in sharing it.

Later, we became colleagues and went on to work together for many years. We travelled abroad and ran courses together, and as recently as last autumn we took part in a study trip to Estonia involving workshops and meetings with students and teachers from across the Nordic region.

To me, Anders was an inexhaustible source of knowledge – not only in theatre technique but also in music, culture and history. Over time, he became a close colleague and friend. I miss him.”
