FunkCamp was created 20 years ago by Robert “Rob-One” Wägar. On Thursday and Friday last week, our dance pedagogy education, together with Robert ‘Rob-One’ Wägar and @F.U.N.K.ig, organized FunkCamp 2025. Our premises at Brinellvägen 58 were filled with beats, laughter and sweat as we had the honour of welcoming locking legends from all over the world.

Locking is a lively and expressive dance style that emerged in the early 1970s, created by Don ‘Campbellock’ Campbell. Locking is characterized by sudden locking movements, known as Locks, with roots in funk music.

The intense “Locking 7-to-Smoke” competition was a much-talked-about highlight. Legendary dancer and choreographer Tony Gogo was the judge, DJ Prime kept the mood up with his music, drummer Kwesi contributed his heavy rhythms, and MCs Baya and 1ne-One ruled the show with their words and energy.

The lineup - with Tony Gogo leading the way and big names like Sammy Jo, Damon Frost, Patrik “Prime” Helge, Funky Asparagus, Arvidos and Willow on site - gave us a great atmosphere with hot battles and warm community. FunkCamp 2025 was the biggest but last one ever and a vibrant farewell filled with respect, laughter, soul and a vision for the future of locking culture.

- I've been to camps all over the world, but nothing has even come close to this. The vibe, the love, the dancing - FunkCamp 2025 was pure magic. To be there as history was being made and to feel the energy from both legends and rising stars... this was the best camp ever. Period. said one of the participants.
