fly to fly, fly to girl
fly to fly, fly to girl is a dance performance and an insight into biology, starring 2 whimsical flies. A horse fly pretends to be a business lady, while a fruit fly embodies a lab technician. Staged as anthropomorphic animals, they ponder over relationships. Rigorously aware of the fragile nature of collaboration and the promise of encounters.
The evening unfolds, and the two flies chase and intertwine symbiotically and parasitically. Haematopota subcylindrica persistently attempts to gain control of the evening. She is also known as the horse fly and needs to suck blood for reproduction. Additionally, she is eager to launch her new book and attempts to perform a business of biomimicry. “Visibility does not mean being in the foreground, but rather being an inconspicuous observer of the situation,” says Drosophila melanogaster. She is commonly known as the fruit fly. Her agenda is to stay hydrated, observe and be flirtatious.
Characterized by annoyance and disgust, the flies challenge expectations of their choreographic endeavor and find affection in the fact of being pretentious and persistent. What does it mean to be in one's nature? In the blur between animal and human, desire seems to be at the heart of their shared and lived materiality.
