Maria Lindeman’s research project focuses on interdisciplinary and collaborative processes for the creation of contemporary opera. In particular, she explores the role of the director/facilitator in relation to the collaborators, and the specific capaciousness and frameworks required for these processes. The empirical studies are done through workshops and performances, and the main themes during the previous year have been emerging technology and improvisation. The aim of the explorations is to find alternative expressions and ways of working within the field of opera, and to understand which aspects of the facilitation and the creative process that enable these possibilities. The short opera Currents has emerged as a result of these explorations and it includes a semi-improvised musical and vocal score, interactive hologram projections and motion sensing technology.
During the seminar the PhD student will present her recent research and show some practical examples in video and audio format. The opponent will then present his view on the work and pose questions to the student. The PhD student will respond and there will be a discussion in relation to the current state of the research project. After this the participants are welcome to join the discussion and pose questions and points of view. There will be snacks and refreshments served in the pauses.
