Selection tests master opera

Admission Process Master Programme in Opera - Vocal Performance

The admission group will select from among the eligible applicants through three selection tests. In the selection tests you will sing works of your choice. In total, applicants must have prepared eight different pieces as follows:

  • Seven arias from musical theatre works.
  • One lied or song.

One piece must be performed in your native language, the others in the original language.

This is how the tests work

Selection test 1

Submitted material on film and audio file. No attendance required by applicants.

Assessment

Selection test 1 takes into account the programme's requirements for the applicant's musical and vocal ability. The admission group decides who will proceed to selection test 2. The invitation is sent out via Varbi at the latest by week 10, 2025.

Selection tests 2 and 3

Thursday 27 March 2025

Selection tests 2 and 3 take place during one day at SKH, Teknikringen 35 in Stockholm.

Selection test 2

  • Musical performance test, 15 minutes individual test before the admission group.
You will work musically on an aria from your repertoire list with one of our rehearsal teachers. You will be informed of the aria chosen by the admission group in your invitation. In the invitation to the second audition, you will also be told which aria the admission group would like to work on in the third audition, if you are successful. This is so that you can prepare yourself in the best possible way.

Selection test 3

  • Scenic performance test, 15 minutes individual test before the admission group.
We will work on stage with an aria from your repertoire list, where you must be able to take direction, use scenic imagination, show social skills, use body language and personal expression in front of the admission group. You will be informed which aria the admission group will choose for the scenic test if and when you are invited to audition 2.
  • Interview, approximately 15 minutes.
In the interview, we will ask you questions about the project you have formulated in your application. You will have an opportunity to clarify your thoughts on the project and its purpose. We want to know more about why you chose your specific project, your research questions and how you think the project can develop your artistic practice.
  • The admission group may wish to hear something else from your repertoire list during the test day, so bring notes of your entire repertoire list.

Assessment

Decisive for the final admission is that you are judged to have the vocal, musical and performing skills to be able to benefit from the programme. Your reflective ability is also taken into account in the final assessment.

Admission decisions after selection test 3 will be published on My pages on universityadmissions.se on 6 May 2025.
