Ellen Johanne Røed

Ellen Røed is Vice-Chancellor at SKH, since 1 August 2024. She is a visual artist and professor in film and media. Characterized by her devotion to interdisciplinary forms and performativity, Røed’s artistic research has evolved through experimentation with moving images. She has been operating as an artist since 1995 and educator and artistic researcher since 2004, She has served on the Swedish Ethical Review Board, the steering committee of the Norwegian Artistic Research Programme, and previously worked at Bergen Academy of Art and Design, OsloMet, and BEK. She currently serves on ELIA's working group for Artistic Research and on the steering group for VIS Journal, which she was also involved in initiating. She is the Vice Chair for the Cost project Artistic Intelligence - Responsiveness, accessibility, responsibility, equity. 

Ellen has a PhD from The Norwegian Artistic Research Programme (2014). In 2016, she joined SKH as a profile professor with responsibility for the profile area Art, Technology and Materiality, and responsible for the doctoral education. In 2022 she became Pro Vice-Chancellor. She led the research project Image as Site, funded by the Swedish Research Council, in which she explored field recording as a moving image practice that enables a particular form of attention.
