Teaching at Stockholm University of the Arts
I teach on the Bachelor's programme in Performing Arts and the Master's programme in Performing Arts. I am responsible for the specialisation Costume Design at bachleor level and do research on costume design. In the period 2024 to 2026, I am the Chair of the Education and Research Board.
Profile
I am an Assistant Professor in Performing Arts, costume designer, set designer and researcher specialising in costume design, performance and creative and co-creative processes.
I hold BA and MA degrees from Oslo National Academy of the Arts and Universität der Künste, Berlin. From 2013 to 2025, I worked as a Professor of Costume Design at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, teaching at bachelor, master and PhD level in costume design and fashion design, as well as supervising three PhD students.
I work as a costume designer, set designer and director, and have designed costumes and scenography for more than 50 performances. Two companies I am a permanent part of: The multi-output project Nattens Lys (2013–) with Liv Kristin Holmberg and in the company Babyopera (2008/2018–) where I also work as artistic director.
I am part of the icommunity Critical Costume – an international platform to promote research and practice on the interdisciplinary study of costume.
Research
My research has four focuses: What do costumes ‘do’ in performances – how does it affect the actors/dancers, the audience, and everyone who experiences the costume. How can a costume shape a starting point and centre of gravitation for a performance. What can be said about the dramaturgy that emerges – and more generally – how to describe the interplay that occurs between human and non-human things in performances.
In the period 2018 to 2023, I led the research project Costume Agency, where I was principal resercher together with dramaturge Sodja Lotker. The project was afiliated at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, and funded by the Norwegian Agency for Higher Education and Research, HK-dir (equivalent to the Swedish Research Council). As part of this artistic research, the team were convenours of the conference and exhibition Critical Costume 2020.
