SKH signs a lease agreement for the new building in Slakthusområdet
SKH plans to gather the whole school in a joint building that is to be built in Slakthusområdet in southern Stockholm. The building, designed by the architectural firm 3XN, will accommodate SKH's wide range of specialised artistic education and research in film and media, theatre, circus, dance, and opera. SKH has now signed a lease agreement with real estate developer Atrium Ljungberg, which will construct and manage the building.
“This contract brings us even closer to our vision of a single building where all our education and research can develop and create exciting collaborations within SKH and with the local community. We are pleased that Atrium Ljungberg is choosing to invest in a university of the arts, particularly in the dynamic and creative Slakthusområdet,” says Paula Crabtree, Vice-Chancellor of SKH.
“We are so pleased to welcome SKH to Slakthusområdet. The establishment of the university is fully in line with the vision for the area and the objective of the new Slakthusområdet. By combining education, workplaces, housing and culture, we create an attractive city district that has the potential to foster close cooperation between the academic and business communities,” says Annica Ånäs, CEO of Atrium Ljungberg AB.
SKH’s facilities will cover just over 20,000 square meters in the new building, and will include full-sized theatres, cinemas and a circus hall with a 12-metre ceiling height.
The detailed zoning plan for the site has just undergone review and is expected to enter into force in 2025. The building is expected to be fully completed in 2030.
