SKH receives funding for two PhD students from the Knowledge Foundation
Circulations
The PhD project Circulations will be part of the research environment at SKH, within the subject area of dance. The PhD project will be part of the overall ongoing research project Authorship, Ownership and Control: Dancers' roles and materials (AOC), led by Chrysa Parkinson, Head of Subject and Professor of Dance at SKH.
Circulations explores how embodied knowledges, emerging from research specifically conducted by dancers within the field of dance, might also operate as circulatory systems, moving knowledge within, around, from, and between AOC, SKH, and future academic and industry partners. Researchers in the sciences and humanities are increasingly engaging with concepts and practices of embodiment as research. Circulations would make meaningful contributions to the possibilities and implications embodied knowledges may have on more traditional forms of research.
Speculative Documentary
Speculative Documentary will be part of SKH:s research environment at the subject unit for film and media. The PhD project will be part of the overall research project The Future through the Present , led by Erik Gandini, Professor of Documentary Film and Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor at SKH.
The doctoral project Speculative Documentary investigates how documentary film, traditionally based on real events in the present and past, can create a projection into the future. The project aims to develop a cinematic language that frees documentary film from the limitation of depicting only the present or the past, through capturing not only 'what is' but also 'what can be'. Speculative Documentary strives to open new possibilities for documentary film to capture the great societal, existential challenges we face. Collaboration with the film industry and with external organizations is a central part of the doctoral project and the accepted doctoral student will, through SKH's research environment, have great opportunities to develop long-term networks and collaboration.
“We are very happy for the support of the Knowledge Foundation and look forward to the opportunities this gives both our doctoral group and our research environment” says Ann Kroon, Director of the Research Office at SKH. “The two doctoral students will play an important role in leading our research forward, creating new knowledge and collaboration between academia and industry."
SKH will shortly announce the two doctoral positions. These doctoral studentships provide opportunities for new doctoral students to participate in and further develop research projects that are at the forefront of their respective fields.
“We look forward to starting this exciting collaboration and welcome our two new PhD students as part of SKH,” says Ann Kroon.
