See the circus degree performances on SKH play
The name of the degree performance in circus at SKH is, by tradition, Closing Acts, and that was the case for this year as well. And yet, each performance is different, built as both a collaborative and individual work, with different guest directors from throughout the circus field. This year, the chosen collaborators were long-time Cirkus Cirkör director Olle Strandberg and Nalle Laanela, one of Sweden’s best-known clowns and an accomplished director in his own right.
The graduates presented a show exploring the power and nuance of contemporary circus through the disciplines of tight wire, Chinese pole, hand balance, juggling, teeterboard, rope, aerial fabric and acro dance. The show consisted of 11 acts by soloists or groups woven together by innovative and playful transitions that highlighted community, discovery and presence.
Through the three years of education and during this performance, the students have been supported by our circus faculty and staff, other SKH faculty and staff, and many guest instructors.
The Circus education at SKH initiates innovative processes in methods of working and expressing oneself in circus practices. Our education uses skills and artistic traditions as a foundation from which to build high-level technical and artistic competences in new practices. Since 2008, our students have shined in prestigious circus festivals worldwide and been celebrated for highly skilled innovative and iconoclastic approaches to the art of circus.
Our graduates have joined productions of renowned companies such as Cirkus Cirkör, Cirque du Soleil, 7 fingers, Kompani Giraff and many more, as well as touring with their own companies and productions. For the 2024 graduate class specifically, its students can already be seen performing around North America and Europe with Kompani Giraff, Circus Monti, special events with Cirkus Cirkör, and in many more contexts.
