Ellen Røed to be new Vice-Chancellor of SKH
– I am proud and delighted to be appointed Vice-Chancellor of SKH. I am humbled to continue to develop SKH as an internationally leading institution in artistic education and research and, together with my fantastic colleagues, contribute to creating conditions for art as a force in society. When I came here in 2016, I was motivated by the unique focus on an interdisciplinary artistic research environment at SKH, which I have since been involved in developing. I am aware of how our work at SKH is intertwined with the complex challenges facing today's society, such as increased pressure on democratic values and the place of art in society, and I feel extremely motivated for the task, says Ellen Røed.
Ellen Røed is currently Professor of Film and Media and Pro Vice-Chancellor at SKH. Her artistic practice and research have focused on exploring social and material aspects of moving images. With a passion for interdisciplinary forms and expressions, Ellen Røed has early on been involved in various artist groups where performing arts, dance and visual arts have been combined with electronic arts. For the past ten years, Ellen Røed has worked to develop structures for artistic research and postgraduate education. She has been a member of the Swedish Ethical Review Board and has previously served on the committees for performing arts, visual arts and art and new technology in the Norwegian Arts Council.
Ellen Røed is educated in visual arts at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art NTNU and has also studied humanities and anthropology at the University of Oslo. From 2004 she worked as a senior lecturer in art at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design (now UiB), where she received her PhD in 2014. She came to SKH in 2016 as a profile professor with subject responsibility for doctoral education after three years as an assistant professor at OsloMet.
– The Board and I are delighted to have recruited Ellen Røed. Her diverse expertise will help realise our university's ambition to become an international leader in all our disciplines. Her solid knowledge of the university and her ability to lead the preparations for moving all activities to a common building is also a plus. At the same time, we thank Paula Crabtree for her committed and enthusiastic rectorship over more than ten years, says Peter Egardt, Chairman of the Board.
