Earlier in October Filmrummet at the Swedish Film Institute held a seminar, AI and film production – in practice, where invited guests were able to talk about and show some of the AI programs currently in use. A highly appreciated – and full – seminar aimed at film industry workers who want to know more about the benefits of AI in film work.

You can now watch the conversation on Filmrummet's Youtube channel, see link at the bottom.

Among the guests were several SKH employees/alumni with projects linked to SKH:
Linda Janson, production design teacher, Mirko Lempert, visual artist and former student and teacher, and Didrik Thurfjell, cinematographer and alumnus.

Other participants were Michael Hjorth, screenwriter, Ellinor Nilsson, sound designer and Olle Tholén, producer. The moderator was Emma Gray Munthe, film journalist.

We took the opportunity to ask Ali Quraishi, a student on our master's program Art of Impact and also a guest lecturer at SKH:

How do you use AI in your filmmaking and what benefits do you see with it?

– Right now I am training and integrating AI models into tools that can facilitate the creative processes of others. Among other things, an educational platform aimed at primary and secondary school students. I am also working on a larger artistic project where I explore ethical, legal and existential issues related to the rise of AI in our lives. At the moment, I see AI in film as a tool that can help create a more frictionless and democratic ecosystem. But that can quickly change and become something completely different. We have exciting and eventful times ahead of us.
