VIS issue 9 was published 14 March 2023. The Issue features seven expositions within the theme “Of Memory and Public Space”. Editors are Serge von Arx and Eliot Moleba.

The world premiere of the documentary film "After Work" and a prestigious nomination in the main competition at the documentary film festival CPH:DOX is Erik Gandini's everyday life right now. Erik is a Researcher and Professor of Documentary Film at SKH and is also one of Sweden's leading documentary film directors, with a long and solid experience of filmmaking and socially critical investigation.

On 9 March, UKÄ decided to give SKH the overall assessment of approved quality assurance work! SKH's analysis for the areas that were previously assessed as unsatisfactory is now considered satisfactory.

Are you interested in deepening or broadening your artistic practice? Now you have the chance. We offer a range of courses for those working in circus, dance, dance pedagogy, film and media, opera, performing arts and acting. Autumn courses are open for application until April 17.

Tempo Documentary Festival, Sweden's largest documentary film festival, has just ended. SKH Film and Media held a number of programs and there were alumni and students with their productions. The festival week ended traditionally with award ceremonies in various areas and several SKH alumni were recognized.

The call for VIS – Nordic Journal for Artistic Research issue 11 is open! The theme is “Play, come what may” and editors are Cecilia Roos and Gunhild Mathea Husvik-Olaussen. Deadline for expositions is 9 June 2023.

On Thursday, 9 March, the climate calculator Elsa will have its official release at the Tempo Documentary Festival. Its ambitions are no less than fundamentally changing the way the film industry operates – and to change our own narrative of how we can see the world. Three summer courses in circus, dance or opera are available to apply until 15 March.

Our opera education has a long and successful collaboration with the University of Cape Town in South Africa, a university that is a burgeoning nursery for opera singers internationally. Last week, we were visited by Jeremy Silver and Sindile Patrick Tikolo.

In the artistic research course The Impact of Research, nine different students learn how to conduct research over two semesters. In January, as part of the course, they participated in a film workshop with cameras from the 1950s and 60s, where they even got to develop their own films in coffee!

The SKH’s annual Research Week, which ran from 17–20 January 2023, ended last Friday. During the week, SKH researchers and PhD students gave a total of 25 presentations of ongoing and completed research projects in circus, dance, dance pedagogy, film, media, opera, performing arts and acting. The Research Week was held both on-site and live-streamed via our website.

Vanja Hamidi Isacson successfully defended her artistic research project "The potential of multilingualism in dramatic works" on 9 December 2022, within the PhD programme Performative and Media-Based Practices.

It was really nice to be back at the Saco Student Fair after two years of pandemic restrictions and to physically meet secondary school students to talk about our programmes. A total of 21,554 visitors came to Kistamässan where the event took place over two days, 1-2 December.

Do you want to be a circus performer or maybe a mime actor? Or are you already active within the performing arts and would like to pursue an advanced programme at master's level? Application for our programmes starting in autumn 2023 opens today and you can apply until 16 January 2023.

On 18 November, issue eight of VIS – Nordic Journal for Artistic Research was released, with the theme “of Rules and Alternatives”. The editors of the issue are Serge von Arx and Eliot Moleba.

When the autumn term starts in 2023, the opera students will meet the then-newly appointed teachers Emma Lyrén Fernandez and Fredrik Zetterström. "We are very pleased to have these two vocal performance teachers join our opera teaching staff," says Head of Department Lise-Lotte Axelsson about the recruitments.

Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH) invites applications to its international Masters of Fine Arts degree programmes - Dance Education (MADE), New Performative Practices (NPP) and Performing Arts. Applications are currently open. The deadline is 16 January 2023.

One artistic research project at Stockholm University of the Arts will receive a total of 3.9 million Swedish kronor in funding when the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet, VR) distribute this year’s grants.
– We are very happy that Marie Fahlin, who successfully completed her PhD at SKH on 28 April 2021, now will be returning to us as a researcher, says Cecilia Roos, Vice-Rector for Research at SKH.

The doctoral artistic research project ‘The potential of multilingualism in dramatic works' by Vanja Hamidi Isacson can be found in DiVA and Research Catalogue.

An ambitious new collaboration between film schools in Denmark, Sweden and Norway, called Nord - New Nordic Voices, will promote the development of strong Nordic storytellers. The first phase of the collaboration is a three-year development project that the A.P. Møller Foundation has supported with €1.5 million.

The Artistic Research Autumn Forum (24-26 October) ended its second day with a major VIS event in the Machine Hall of the art facility Tou in Stavanger. The evening featured performances by Paola Torres Núñez del Prado (author in VIS #7), Timo Menke (author in VIS #6) and Vilda Kvist.

More than 250 artistic researchers from all over the world gathered when the conference Alliances and Commonalities was held again at SKH 20-22 October 2022.
