Mapping is a process of observing the city as a performance. The observer is invited to translate everyday movements, sounds, conversations and objects of the city into fiction. Thus, each observed event becomes the story of a specific point within a precisely measured time. This is a way of appropriating a city that is usually there where one is not.
Like any theatrical event, also this one is designed according to pre-prepared protocols: instructions on how to observe, the time and location of the Mapping are clearly defined. Documentation and ways of discussions after observation are integral part of the overall score.
Project tackles on various topics; everyday as a ready-made, boredom, modernity, choreography, observation, documentation, public space, architecture, creation of meaning, practice, performance and magic.

Presentation and discussion - Mapping the city
Friday 16 May at 15:00-16:30 at SKH Brinellvägen 58, studio 16
What is Mapping and what is the city? How does one choose a location? What constitutes an audience? How to lead a discussion afterwards? What are ethical considerations of such a practice? How is it all connected to choreography and what are the ways of documentation?
Dejan will present the project, answer some of the above questions and pose new ones. He will afterwards be joined by Tina Eriksson Fredriksson and Joakim Rindå, collaborators and colleagues that have invited the project to be a part of the program of Riksetatern and that support it to grow content wise and production wise. We will end with some Q&A from the audience.
All welcome, no booking needed.

Mapping the City is being developed within the MA NPP program at Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH) and composing differences; practice, project supported by the Ministry of Culure of Slovenia. This is a co-production between Dejan Srhoj, Stockholm University of the Arts, Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia and Riksteatern, Sweden.
Thanks to all my fellow students and professors at the MA NPP program for invaluable comments, discussions, proposals and ideas. Thank you Linda Adami for connecting the project with Riksteatern where I have the privilege to further develop and realize the Mappings around Sweden in collaboration with Tina Eriksson Fredriksson and Joakim Rinda. And last bit not least thanks to Nina, Laura, Adam, Dragana, Doroteja, Dimitra and Liana for all the support and love.
