RATBAG

RATBAG

Evoking the whimsicality of childhood, 'Ratbag' is a heartfelt exploration of family, self-discovery, and profound love. Master's student Oliver (Ollie) Horsfall.

When: Friday 30 May (Open Dress) - Time TBC and Monday 2 June, at 19:00-20:00
Where: location is coming
Free entrace, no pre-booking
Runtime: 1 hour (showtime) and a 20 minute Q&A immediately after (on the 2 June)

Oliver (Ollie) Horsfall brings to life a dreamscape of memories and imaginings based on his childhood in ‘Ratbag’.

‘Ratbag’ - a moniker given to Ollie by his mother in childhood - explores the relationship Ollie shares with his mother, growing up gay, a world shattered by tragedy, and the possibilities of what might have been. Personal, reflective and emotional, Ollie combines music, sound, video, and physical theatre into a multidimensional auto-fictional production, where he explores the essence of familial trauma, legacy and ultimately love and acceptance.

Ollie’s ongoing project has been based around solo-devising. Finding a method for creation only from oneself. Moving from moment to moment - allowing himself to gather the necessary materials to design this show via free-association, ‘reflective echoing’ and play - allowing distractions to be tools, rather than obstacles.

Artist Bio

Oliver Horsfall is an artist and researcher exploring autobiographical and devised performance. Rooted in playwriting and poetry, his work delves into memory, psychology, and the power of empathy on stage. His recent project, "RATBAG," crafts semi-autobiographical theatre through embodied practice and fragmented memories, shaping his unique creative approach informed by personal experience and performance theory.
Intuitively led, Oliver's process integrates music and human relationships, seeking to create a "Theatre of Empathy" that fosters connection through vulnerable storytelling. This ongoing exploration of bringing personal narratives to life involves both delicate considerations and compelling discoveries, with a keen interest in sharing this work with wider audiences.
