Wednesday seminar: Presentation of two research projects
This seminar is part of the Wednesday seminar series this autumn, where we explore a wide range of emerging methods and practices in artistic research. Here you can learn more about the series and discover upcoming seminars!
In “Authorship, Ownership and Control: dancers’ roles and materials”, a project led by Chrysa Parkinson, dancers’ experiences of creating, learning, or passing on the dances they create and dance constitute the research. The documentation of dancers’ situated knowledge, discourse and experience of authorship, ownership, and control will contribute to meaningful reflections serving the dance field itself by heightening awareness of the specificity of these terms’ application in this community of practice. Dancers’ perspectives will also contribute to the advancement of theory and practice concerning creativity, intellectual property, and maintenance or preservation of authored materials and artworks.
For this Wednesday Research Seminar members of the AOC research team will share two methods developed within the research project:
- Studio Conversations (felt sense and place-based method for articulating concepts)
- Summonings (touch-based method for transmission of memory)
The artistic research project “The Future Through the Present” is led by Erik Gandini and is aimed at developing a speculative approach to documentary filmmaking – exploring not only 'what is' but also 'what could be'. Some of the questions that the project poses are: How can a documentary film portray something that does not yet exist? A universe of ideas, hypotheses and assumptions? How can we formulate new aesthetics that release the documentary from the limitations of representing either the present or the past? How can a new 'documentary aesthetics for the future' be formulated that is not an imitation of fiction or the SCI-FI genre? A new narrative that, through the contemporary, manages to create a projection into the future?
The research project has resulted in the creative essay documentary AFTER WORK.
