Timeline
15 January 2026: Your last date of application and work samples
2 February* 2026: Deadline for application fee and to submit supporting documents
January - March 2026: Admission group assesses the submitted material for qualification test and Selection 1
16 March 2026: Information about who proceed to Selection 2 or not are sent out
One day between 23 March-10 April 2026: Selection 2 - online interview This test requires applicant participation online.
5 May 2026: Admission decisions are sent out
18 May2026: Last day to reply to possible programme offer
Mid-May 2026: Decision on the award of the SKH tution fee scholarship
* 5 July 2026 is deadline for you who need to submit proficiency test in English or Swedish.
Deadline for Diploma of Bachelor’s Degree and transcript of records for you who are currently studying the last term of your Bachelor’s Programme, is by the time for course start.
Assessment of entry requirements
The assessment process of the entry requirements is divided into two parts:
A. Assessment of the general entry requirement of a bachelor’s degree, as well as the specific entry requirements a Bachelor´s in fine arts or for the education other relevant bachelor´s degree, swedish 1, 2 and 3 (only specialisations taught in Swedish), English 6 or the equivalent and 15 credits and Degree project within a, for the applied Master programme specialisation, relevant specialisation from the Bachelor's program in film and media, or equivalent. Applications for recognition of prior learning will be assessed by a specially appointed teacher.
B. Assessment of the specific entry requirement a grade of pass in the qualification test showing artistic ability in the specialisation applied for in film and media.
The qualification test
The qualification test showing artistic ability in the specialisation applied for in film and media is assessed by an admission group. The assessment is based on the work samples in form of moving images, sound clip or text uploaded by the applicant and also the documents: a project idea/artistic exploration/research topic and the motivation letter.
The admission group will evaluate the level of the applicant’s artistic work by looking at the film- or sound clip and the work sample and will evaluate:
- The level of craftsmanship
- The clarity of artistic concepts expressed in the work
In the applicant’s project idea/artistic exploration/research topic and letter of motivation the admission group will evaluate the level of articulation in terms of:
- Motivation for applying to the specialisation
- Expectations of the studies undertaken on the programme
- Clarity of the project idea/artistic exploration/research topic and how relevant it is to the programme
- The challenges that the project may entail
- Contextualization of the project within the field of film and media and society
- Demonstrate the ability to make assessments with regard to relevant artistic, social and ethical aspects in the main area of education.
- Show an understanding of the role of art in society.
Assessment of the qualification test
The assessment relates to the criteria for the two parts of the test. The applicant has to get the grade of pass in both parts of the test in order to pass the qualification test.
The scale for assessing the qualification test is:
Pass: The applicant demonstrates the requested ability.
Fail: The applicant does not demonstrate the requested ability.
Selection 1 - based on submitted material
The admissions team makes a first selection based on the material submitted. The selected candidates are invited to an interview.
Selection 2 - interview via Zoom
This part of the admission process consists of an interview where the applicant is given the opportunity to more fully describe their practice and project. The interview will be conducted by the admission group. The admission group will focus on the applicant’s conceptual, aesthetic and theoretical interests as well as their visions for a two year period of study. The applicants will be assessed based on the interview as well as the submitted material.
Selection and criteria
A selection is made if there are more eligible applicants than places. The selection of applicants is made on artistic grounds by an admissions group. The selection is made in the first stage by means of an overall assessment of the application documents that the applicants have submitted, and thereafter interviews.
The criteria for selection are:
- The applicant's ability to solve artistic tasks, problems or questions within the specialisation applied for.
- The applicant's ability to reflect on his or her own artistic expression and that of others.
The admission group
The assessment of the applicants in the qualification test is made by an admission group with expertise that reflects the current education. The admission group mainly consists of members working at Stockholm University of the Arts. The selection is then made by an admission group with expertise that reflects the current education, consisting of members working at Stockholm University of the Arts and most often of representatives from the professional environment. A student representative can also participate in the admissions group, but will not take part in the assessment.
