The film sound designer record sound, in studio or in the field, and treat these in different ways to achieve the desired effect in the final mix. The increasingly important role of sound in film and media demands sound designers to have the ability to understand the unique characteristics and narrative potential of sound – both as an independent, artistic medium and in relation to image and space. The film sound designer therefore needs to be able to communicate their visions in understandable terms. Artistic integrity, imagination and creativity combined with good collaborative skills and technical know-how are also important key features.
