English Language Requirement
You must show that you have the right level of knowledge of English. If you lack a grade or do not have documentation that show that you have the sufficient level of English, you can take an English Proficiency Test to show your eligibility.
Do you meet the English language requirement?
In order to be eligible for university studies in Sweden, you must show that that you meet the English language requirement for the course or programme that you wish to apply for. It is indicated in the entry requirements for each course or programme.
What is the requirement?
For most courses and study programmes where English is the language of instruction, the English language entry requirement is the equivalent of English studies at upper secondary (high school) level in Sweden, called English Course 6 (previously Course B). For some courses, the English entry requirement is at a lower level, called English Course 5 (previously called Course A).
Some applicants meet the requirment through their upper secondary studies.
Applicants who have previously studied at a university level may also meet the requirements.
For English 5, 30 credits at University level with English as the language of instruction is required, and for English 6, 60 credits at University level with English as the language of instruction is required.
If you do not meet the English language requirement defined in the general or the specific entry requirement, you can take an English test.
Local English language test
For admission to our education programmes we arrange for a local English test which is given in conjunction with the selection tests at SKH. Please note that the local language test is only valid when applying to a specific education programme within SKH. The local English language test if free of charge. The test is organised at our school premises in Stockholm or online on a specific date.
Internationally recognised English test
Applicants may also demonstrate their English abilities through an internationally recognised English test. Below you can see accepted tests and minimum results required.
IELTS Academic/IELTS UKVI
Please note that we do not accept IELTS General Training or IELTS Indicator.
For Course 6: an overall mark of 6.5 and no section below 5.5
For Course 5: an overall mark of 5.5 and no section below 5.0
You can upload a scan of your original IELTS Academic Test Report Form to University Admissions. You can also send a copy of your test results to University Admissions using regular mail.
Your results will be verified online so the copy of your test results is sufficient documentation. If your score cannot be verified, it won't be accepted.
According to IELTS, test results are valid for 2 years. Please note that University Admissions can accept older test results as long as they're available online for verification.
Pearson PTE Academic
For English 6: Minimum score of 62 (written score of 61)
For English 5: Minimum score of 47
In order for your Pearson PTE Academic test results to be valid you need to do the following:
We accept the TOEFL iBT, TOEFL iBT Home Edition and TOEFL iBT Paper Edition.
Please note that we do not accept TOEFL ITP, TOEFL iBT MyBest, Institutional TOEFL, TOEFL Essentials, or the revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test (available 2017-2021).
Submit a copy of your test taker score to University Admissions, either by uploading a scan of the original document or through regular mail.
University Admissions will then be able to verify your score online. If your score cannot be verified, it won't be accepted. The TOEFL test can be verified for up to 2 years after the test date.
For Course 6: Score of 20 (scale 0-30) in written test, total score of 90
For Course 5: Score of 17 (scale 0-30) in written test, total score of 72
Please note: TOEFL Examinee Score Records are not accepted.
University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL)
For Course 5: First Certificate in English, grade A, B or C
For Course 6: Certificate in Advanced English, C1 Advanced (CAE), minimum overall score 180 (points awarded since 2015), or Cambridge English certificate level C1, minimum score 180
- Submit a scan of your Certificate or Statement of Results to University Admissions.
- Make sure you are registered at Cambridge Candidate Results Online portal so we can verify your results. Share your results with the Swedish Council for Higher Education (University Admissions in Sweden).
