Here you will find the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

Can I apply in more than one specialisation?
Yes, it is possible to apply in more than one specialisation. In that case you need to do separate applications.

How is the project description supposed to be structured?
In the project description you need to describe the research questions that are explored in the artistic research project, the procedures and methods used, and you also need to discuss in which way the project contributes to existing knowledge and experience within the art field.

Do I have to contact the supervisors in advance?
No, that is not necessary. We will discuss possible supervisors with the PhD candidates that are admitted.

What should be included in the project budget?
The project budget submitted on application is a preliminary budget sketch of a maximum of SEK 400,000 which aims to show the project's feasibility regarding production, documentation and dissemination of the project within an economic framework. The budget can be revised later. Specify the costs required to complete the project, except your own salary. Project costs may for example include fees for participation, costs of materials, technical support. If you do not know which fees or prices apply in Sweden, assume the cost level you are used to and make a budget sketch based on that.

How do I apply for accreditation of prior learning?
If you do not meet the formal criteria for the general entry requirements – i.e. if you do not have at least 60 documented credits on advanced level – you should apply separately for accreditation of prior learning. How to do so is described here Accreditation of prior learning.

Do I have to move to Stockholm if I am admitted as a doctoral candidate?
Yes, as the main part of the education is conducted at SKH, and as you will also participate in other activities at the university, your workplace will be at SKH's campus in Stockholm.

Can I receive any help when moving to Sweden?
All employees are themselves responsible for finding a place to live and register with the Swedish authorities etc. when moving to Stockholm.

Is the position as a PhD candidate financed?
Yes, the PhD candidates will be employed at SKH during the four years of the education, according to the regulations in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance.

What is the level of the salary for PhD candidates?
The PhD candidates' salaries are regulated by a specific agreement (SKH's "doktorandstege"). The salary when starting the position is 27 200 SEK.

Which resources do I have as a PhD ​candidate?
Provided that funding is available, the PhD candidates have access to funding to implement the project. As a doctoral candidate you are part of one of SKH's departments and have access to different support functions.

How do I know if my application continues to the next step of the selection process?
We will keep all applicants informed via the application system.

When will the interviews take place?
Interviews with the applicants that continue after the second selection will happen16-20 May 2022 in Stockholm.

When will the decision be made?
The final decision will be made at the latest in September 2022. How can I get further information if I have other questions?
