Ylva Hofvander Trulsson elected to VR's Committee for Educational Sciences

The Professor of Aesthetic Didactics at Stockholm University of the Arts, Ylva Hofvander Trulsson, has been elected to the Committee for Educational Sciences at the Swedish Research Council (VR). The committee, which among other things manages the grant system for educational sciences, is the highest research body within educational sciences in Sweden.

The Committee for Educational Sciences decides which calls are to be made within educational sciences. They also decide on which applications will be awarded grants. Additionally, the Committee follows up, evaluates, and produces strategies for the research area, for example through research overviews. As with all of VR’s committees, it also has a large influence on directing priorities in the preliminary studies for government research bills.

Ylva Hofvander Trulsson, who is also Head of the Department of Dance Pedagogy, explains that she feels extremely honoured by the appointment.

“This may be the most prestigious appointment of my career,” she says. “As a committee member, it is possible to direct development within the field to a major extent.”

It is also fantastic news, thinks Ylva Hofvander Trulsson, that a researcher that works with artistic subjects now gets to be part of the committee, which has been rare in the past.

“That artistic subjects get a voice there is central to keep track of and shed light on these issues within educational sciences,” says Ylva Hofvander Trulsson. “I think that the presence of artistic subjects in these contexts increase the influence of artistic subjects in society in general. Educational sciences are not just pedagogy but also includes aspects of sociology, politics, linguistics and much more. There’s an opportunity to highlight how important aesthetic subjects are in society, in school and in people’s lives. That is a significant task in the work of the committee that I’m happy to take on.”
