How can film generate new witnesses and contribute to a collective mourning process? These are two central questions in the research project Looking for Jeanne: to bear witness with film, conducted at SKH. The project is led by Professor Petra Bauer in collaboration with researcher Marius Dybwad Brandrud, producer Marta Dauliute, and activist Carolina Sinisalo.

The research group investigates, among other things, how artistic practices can shed light on experiences of violence, grief, and resistance – and in doing so, create space for shared memory work. The work has resulted in a series of four films. The most recent, fifteen zero three sixteenth of january two thousand sixteen (2024), will be screened at SKH this Wednesday, 24 September.

The film portrays grief through everyday gestures, objects, and spaces, and highlights how artistic research can weave together the personal and the political.

“Through the film, we want to explore how memories and stories can be shared and become part of a collective testimony,” says Petra Bauer.

The screening is part of the Wednesday seminar series this fall and will be followed by a discussion with the participants.
