Liz Aggiss at Stockholm University of the Arts!

Yesterday, we had the honour to have, ”the one and only”, the unclassifiable, British performance artist and Emeritus Professor in Visual Performance, Liz Aggis as a guest seminar at Uniarts. This opportunity was one of the research seminars held at Uniarts each week.

Liz Aggiss is a live artist, a dance artist, a choreographer and film-maker. She has been described as maverick, challenging, anarchistic, grotesqu,  dangerous, uncompromising, subversive, bold, humorous, powerful but also vulnerable.

For the past 40 years Liz Aggiss has been re(de)fining her own brand of British contemporary dance performace, blurring the boundaries between high art and popular culture.  Her work is driven by content that embodies feminist dance practices and is framed by contextual research that considers and uses the personal and historical as reference.

In her presentation, Liz Aggiss gave the public an overview of her artistic career: how it all started, about her move to New York, about the period she toured with The Stranglers as their dancer. She also showed a part of her latest performance ”Slap & Tickle”, a piece that is currently touring at various queerfestivals around Europe, Asia and Latin America.

The seminar was followed by a Q & A session monitored by Christina Molander, Head of the Department of Performing Arts.
