Josette Bushell-Mingo appointed Principal of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama
Josette Bushell-Mingo, Head of the Department of Acting at Stockholm University of the Arts, has been appointed Principal of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.
The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama is an institution of the theatrical and performing arts, and an independent federal member of the University of London. Higher education student numbers are just over 1,000 at undergraduate level, post graduate taught level and post-graduate research level.
Josette - when you started at SKH in 2018, it was your first leading position at an Arts University. What experiences and knowledge do you bring with you from SKH to your new job?
– I take with me the wonderful influence of the students, both artistic, within the civil society and the education. They are why we are here. I take with me the deepening understanding of the difference between leadership and boss and how important it is to see people´s strengths. I take with me the confirmation of the power of the Arts education to change our world and the University´s importance at the centre of that change. Tons of inspiration and some good colleagues who will now be good friends. I am SO VERY proud to have been part of the Department of Acting – and grateful for all we have shared. I will follow their work with excitement.
Paula Crabtree, Vice-Chancellor at Stockholm University of the Arts congratulates Josette to her new position.
– Josette has been a much valued colleague and member of the SKH leadership for the past three years. She has been ambitious in her approach and plans to further develop the Department of Acting and has been generous with her competence across SKH. She has demonstrated a keen interest in working across departments whilst ensuring the integrity of the Department of Acting. Josette’s successful appointment at Central reminds us that SKH is also an institution that allows for individual growth, whether you are a student, a doctoral candidate or a co-worker. It is important in a University like SKH, that everyone has the opportunity to develop. I wish to congratulate Josette on her exciting new position. At SKH, we look forward to collaborating with Josette and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in the near future.
Josette Bushell-Mingo will continue as Head of the Department of Acting for the entire spring term and take up her new position in London after the summer.
