Paz Rojo 80% seminar “State of dance”
Paz is a doctoral candidate in Choreography and now it's time for her 80% seminar “State of dance”.
How to commit to what is not yet? In this seminar the relation between dance and choreography will be considered from the perspective of a plane of destituent perception. The potential of contemplating what has not yet been produced is activated by the adjective “destituent”, associated with abandonment, lack, crisis, loss of meaning and the emergence of a not-yet-known this devastation harbors. What is at stake here is a kinetics that leaves the signifying and communicative capacity of choreography in a kind of “state of dance.” What are the performative consequences of a dance that continues its adventure within the structure of choreographic signification but becomes an obstinately ungraspable background? Perhaps the knowledge and skills dance elicits, plus the natural inclination of the body to move (all three of which sustain dance itself) are starting to tend to experiences in which dance is switching its purpose. What happens when dance itself becomes an incomprehensible murmur? A dancing that although it does not mean anything, gets to do something...
This seminar will evolve from two works: the video recording of ECLIPSE : MUNDO (Madrid, 2018), which participants are invited to watch during the seminar; and the essay what do we talk about when we talk about dancing on a plane of destituent perception? (Paz Rojo, 2018). Both materials engage two different creation and documentation processes. ECLIPSE:MUNDO as practice based research and the essay what do we talk about… theorizing the insights and questions opened during the creation of this performance.
