About Johannes Öhman
Johannes Öhman is since autumn 2011, the Artistic Director of the Royal Swedish Ballet. Prior to that he was the Artistic Director of the Göteborg Dance Company, where he was appointed in April 2007. Earlier, he has been the Artistic Director of Stockholm 59° North and 1st soloist at the Royal Swedish Ballet.
Johannes Öhman was born in July 1967, and began dancing at the age of 14. He studied at the Royal Swedish Ballet School with teachers such as Franchetti, Damianov and Rasch. In 1987, he joined the Royal Swedish Ballet, where he was appointed soloist in 1991. Johannes Öhman won the Paris Opera prize at the Paris International Ballet Competition in 1986 and the same year he was a finalist in the Varna International Ballet Competition. He also won first prize at the Swedish selection for the Eurovision Competition for Young Dancers. Between 1986-1988, he was a soloist at the Basler Ballet in Switzerland. Johannes Öhman has worked as a teacher at the Cullberg Ballet, the Ballet Academy in Stockholm and the Royal Swedish Ballet.
