Films+Games=Awesome Bergman

Registration for "Awesome Bergman” the seminar/workshop at Fårö, Sweden 7-9 September 2015 is now closed.

This is a Training the Trainers activity supported by CILECT. The Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts (SADA) will host a seminar/workshop project on the current interplay between the film and game world. A group of internationally distinguished scholars, researchers and professionals will provide the basis for interaction with a special focus on narrative, design/world building and interactivity (main focus on interactive documentaries). Educators and students will approach those topics together in practice. The event will take place on the island of Fårö, Sweden (arrival date 6 September, departure date 10 September) where Ingmar Bergman lived and shot several of his world-renowned works such as Persona or Scenes from a Marriage.

SADA has invited author and script consultant Linda Aronson, who will introduce the participants to nonlinear narratives. The part on interactivity will be presented by Sarah Wolozin (head of the Open Documentary Lab at MIT) and Katerina Cizek (documentary filmmaker, known for her work on the project Highrise). Alex McDowell will introduce the audience to design and world building methods through a practical example, the RILAO project/workshop.

Every morning will start with a keynote (75-90min), continue with the workshops (split over three days, approx. 3hrs a day) and will have short lectures/case studies (30min) in-between. The lectures will be given by industry professionals ranging from alumni and independent companies to major players such as DICE and Avalanche. One workshop Farther than the Eye Can See will be hosted by the regional film centre of Gotland and will become part of the seminar. It will re-examine landscape in cinema and through hands on projects, try out new configurations of landscape in cinema and expanded cinema practice.
